Mount Joy, Lancaster County — Animal farming in Pennsylvania generates more than four point three billion dollars in sales each year, according to the Department of Agriculture.

Lancaster County is a mecca for farming and now home to a farm animal sanctuary.

Mowki the cow was born on a dairy farm in Central PA.

“She is what is known as a freemartin. So, she was born sterile,” says Sarah Salluzzo, executive director of Lancaster Farm Sanctuary.

A sterile calf on a dairy farm serves little purpose.

“She was actually going to be sold for dog food,” adds Salluzzo.
